My Viva Veggie Spinach Wrap for Lunch

So I was out in my ministry work with a friend and she suggested I go eat at Togo’s. I am trying to stay away from heavy breads. When I viewed the menu I saw their Viva Veggie spinach wraps.

The Ingredients: spinach wrap filled with hummus, roasted red peppers, feta cheese, red onions, shredded lettuce, feta cheese & balsamic vinaigrette.

When I initially took a  bite I got a big chunk of the hummus, I thought ummmm ok not a fan, but when I got a taste of the red onion and the balsamic vinaigrette mixed all together it started to taste like a spinach wrapped pizza. Would I buy it again? Yes I would. It’s a great option for vegans or those staying away from heavy breads

This is the perfect way to assist your body to eliminate toxins through sweating, also to absorb minerals and nutrients the water provides, making you feel refreshed and awake. This is an ancient remedy that you can perform in the comfort of your own home.

Follow the next steps for perfect results, it is very important that you choose one day that you don’t have anything to do for at least 1 hour, where you are not going to stress out or hurry, this is your time, and you are giving it to yourself as a gift. The bath will take approximately 40 minutes, the first 20 your body will remove the toxins while the second 20 your body will absorb the minerals and nutrients.

Begin by filling your tub with hot water, for better results try to use chlorine filter, and add magnesium sulfate (Epsom Salt-very inexpensive), which helps the body combat hypertension, since the sulfate flushes toxins and helps proteins in brain tissue and joints.

Add 1-2 cups (or more) of baking soda, which is known for its cleansing ability and anti-fungal properties, leaving skin very soft.

Then add 1 tablespoon of ground ginger or fresh ginger tea to increase your heat levels, helping to sweat out the toxins.

Add aromatherapy oils, these oils have particular therapeutic properties to take advantage of and will make the bath an even more pleasant and relaxing experience. Tea tree and eucalyptus assist in detoxification, or you can use fresh herbs to suit your mood if you prefer.

After 40-45 minutes, its time to come back. Get out of the tub slowly and carefully, your body just had a huge workout by getting rid of all the toxins, so you may feel a little weak.

Are you Feeling Stressed, Anxious or Overly Nervous?

Many people today are experiencing high levels of stress. I sometimes suffer from anxiety attacks or feelings of nervousness. My mother told be a couple of years ago that I should take B Vitamins.  B vitamins are also recognized as anti-anxiety vitamins. B vitamins and the neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin have direct link since they are important in promoting emotional equilibrium and calmness. In particular she suggested I take Nutri-Calm. I love this herbal supplement formula. This stuff really works.

Nutri-Calm is a multi-vitamin/multi-mineral supplement that is formulated to be especially helpful for those who are nervous, high-strung, or under a lot of stress.  During this time, the body burns through a lot of B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thus, this formulation is much higher in these particular vitamins than the typical multi-vitamin.

B Complex Vitamins l Nutri-Calm

There are several herbs in this formula that are known to be helpful in soothing the nervous system–hops, passion flower, and Valerian root.  However, it should be noted that this formula does not cause drowsiness.  In fact, many people find that it increases energy along with a feeling of calmness.

Are you getting enough Vitamin D or Sun Exposure?

Many people may have Vitamin D deficiency and may not know it. Vitamin D deficiency is really common among the African American community.  I suggest you visit your Medical Doctor and ask to get your blood work done. The doctor might think anywhere from 20–50 ng/mL is normal, but optimal value is 50–70 ng/mL.

Some signs of vitamin D deficiency

1. Diabetes

2. Muscle weakness

3. Asthma

4. Cancer

5. Depression

6. Gum Disease

7. Kidney Disease

Take steps to improve your Vitamin D intake…………How?

A. Walk or sit outside and soak up the sun (many people work indoors and maybe get off work when the sun has already set …so they never get a chance to soak in the sun during the week. Our safe exposure to the sun is vital when it comes to our vitamin D intake and health ingeneral)

B. Take Vitamin D Supplements

I found a great list about preventing the deficiency of Vitamin D. Check it out below:

 List from www.womentowomen.com

  • Allow yourself limited, unprotected sun exposure in the early morning and late afternoon (no more than 15 minutes for light-skinned individuals, 40 minutes for darker skin)
  • Eat a diet rich in whole foods. Nutrient-dense, fatty fish like mackerel and sardines are good sources of vitamin D. Egg yolks, fortified organic milk and other dairy products, and some organ meats (like liver) are also reasonably good natural sources of D. Because vitamin D is still somewhat of a mystery, we’re not sure which co-factors are important for its absorption, but we can surmise they are most fully present in wholesome food.
  • Take a top-quality multivitamin every day to fill in any nutritional gaps, preferably one that includes fish oil. ( multivitamin)
  • Take a vitamin D supplement. Supplement additionally with vitamin D3 at 1000–2000 IU daily if you do not get testing (or higher with testing, under the care of your healthcare practitioner). For a long time, vitamin D therapy was being prescribed as vitamin D2. To our thinking, this form has more potential for toxicity and is much less effective than natural vitamin D3. Nowadays vitamin D3 supplements are widely recognized as the superior, more bio-ready form for use in the body. How much you need really depends on your particular needs, so testing is really the best way to go for most people.
  • Check with your healthcare professional about vitamin D testing. If you think you may be suffering from vitamin D deficiency, get a blood test and ask for the results. I like to see an optimal value of 50–70 ng/mL. A conventional doctor might think anywhere from 20–50 ng/mL is normal, but that recommendation will soon change as the newest research becomes incorporated into the standard of conventional care.
  • Discuss adding a vitamin D supplement to your diet with your healthcare provider. If you don’t get out in the sun every day for 15 minutes in the early morning and late afternoon, consider supplementing with 1000–2000 IU per day — at least during the winter months! But you may need higher levels to reap all the long-term health benefits vitamin D has to offer you, so talk it over with your healthcare provider. This is so important for women of all ages — especially those over 50. Then be sure to get follow-up testing to monitor your response.

Do you need to strengthen your kidneys? Optimize your kidneys Function with Herbs

The kidneys are the filters of the blood. Every minute, one-fourth of the body’s blood—approximately 1200 ml—passes through the kidneys. Each kidney is composed of about one million microscopic filters called nephrons. These nephrons are responsible for eliminating toxins and waste materials from the blood, and for maintaining the electrolyte balance by selectively eliminating some electrolytes while retaining others, according to the body’s needs. The kidneys also help regulate other bodily functions by secreting the hormones renin, erythropoietin, and prostaglandins. Renin helps control blood pressure and erythropoietin stimulates the body to produce more red blood cells.

Psalm 7:9 Says

“Please, may the badness of wicked ones come to an end, And may you establish the righteous one; And God as righteous is testing out heart and kidneys.”

Because of their position deep in the body, the kidneys are among the most inaccessible organs. With good reason, therefore, the Bible uses the term to represent the deepest thoughts and emotions of one’s personality. A wound in the kidneys would be a very deep wound, either literally or figuratively considered. At times kidneys are mentioned in close connection with the heart, which is used figuratively for the total inner person.

The two main emotions that affect the Kidneys are:

  • Fear (TCM- Traditional Chinese Medicine)

  • Not Forgiving (Holistic Medicine)

“Understand please, Family and Friends, that holding on to, harboring these emotions of Fear and Unresolved Forgiveness is to surely weaken the kidneys and eventually one will begin to experience physical signs of kidney problems.  If you know you are holding on to these very emotions, the good news is, strengthening and balancing the kidneys helps you in turn feel strong enough to let go of these emotions.” –Dr. Julissa

Signs of weak kidneys:

1. High Blood pressure Hypertension (actually there is no such thing as high blood pressure according to Traditional Chinese Medicine….there is only WEAK KIDNEYS)

2. Fluid retention (puffy ankles, puffy eyes etc)

3. Smelly urine

4. Anemia

5. High concentration of urea
